The situation and volumetric structure of the villa interpret the specific qualities of the property both in a narrow and a broader sense. The topography of the terrain, with its gentle incline towards the lake, the incomparable view and the sunshine lead to a multi-sectional building that zones the linear property into different areas. The forecourt, courtyard, terrace and shore area form a spatial sequence that accompanies the residents and visitors from the street to the lake. Different building wings, which are allocated to communal or individual functions, are interwoven with each other and create specific places, each with its own identity and atmosphere. The load-bearing concrete envelope, which is covered in white cement and Jurassic lime, ensures that the interior can be transformed in the long term and thereby takes the different life stages of the six-person client family into account.
The current issue 13/2022 of TEC21 introduces the mixed-use conversion on Denkmalstrasse in Lucerne. Among others, the report highlights how the specific concept of the building achieves a lofty spatial openness despite a highly dense urban context and how the simple and raw spaces invite to a playful appropriation for living and working. Minimalism as an offer!
